Daniel Williamson, APRN-CNP

Owner, Board-certified family nurse practitioner

Danny is originally from Indianapolis (and spent many years in France, as well). After working in the corporate world he decided to go to nursing school. He has been working in healthcare since 2008. As a registered nurse (RN) he worked on cardiac units, ICUs, ERs, surgery, neurology units, general medical units and ICU stepdown units. Having a wide variety of experience, he decided to pursue a nurse practitioner degree. "I had many experiences with doctors in the past where I felt as if I were bothering my doctor by being there. I left feeling like I was never truly heard and that some of my concerns were not even addressed. I made a solemn vow to be the kind of provider I myself would like." He moved to Oklahoma in 2013 and married his wife, Ashley. He has two beautiful and spunky daughters, Grace who is 6 and Charlotte who is 3. He and his wife are also expecting their third. In his spare time Danny loves snow skiing, tinkering around the house, doing random yard/landscaping projects, taking naps, swimming with his kids and going on cruises. He and his wife are active in their church and host small groups at their home.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) who has completed advanced education (a minimum of a master's degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, including chronic illnesses. Nurse practitioners provide a broad range of health care services. They offer some of the same care provided by physicians and maintain close working relationships with physicians. An NP can serve as a patient's regular health care provider.

Nurse practitioners provide high-quality, cost-effective individualized care that is comparable to the health care provided by physicians, and NP services are often covered by insurance providers. NPs practice in all states.

The core philosophy of the field is individualized care. Nurse practitioners focus on patients' conditions as well as the effects of illness on the lives of the patients and their families.

  • This can mean fewer prescriptions and less expensive treatments. Nurse practitioners work to inform patients about their health care and encourage them to participate in their health care decisions.
  • Collaborating with physicians and other health professionals as needed, including providing referrals.
  • Counseling and educating patients on health behaviors, self-care skills and treatment options.
  • Diagnosing and treating acute illnesses, infections and injuries.
  • Diagnosing, treating and monitoring chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure).
  • Obtaining medical histories and conducting physical examinations.
  • Ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic studies (e.g., lab tests, x-rays, EKGs).
  • Prescribing medications.
  • Prescribing physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments.
  • Providing prenatal care and family planning services.
  • Providing well-child care, including screening and immunizations.
  • Providing health maintenance care for adults, including annual physicals.
